Representative Matters
Bapco Modernization Programme (BMP) – Bahrain. Joseph Huse led the team advising nogaholding and Bapco on the largest energy investment in the history of the Kingdom of Bahrain. His role went beyond legal counsel — Joseph ran the financing itself, with all financial advisers, including BNP Paribas, HSBC Middle East and Verus Partners, reporting to him throughout the process. The transaction spanned the full deal — from drafting the EPC/construction contract through to closing the $4.2 billion financing package involving five export credit agencies (UKEF, SACE, CESCE, K-EXIM and K-SURE) and a syndicate of 21 commercial and Islamic banks. The financing closed in May 2019, with the overall deal value in excess of $6 billion. The mandate was exceptional in its scope, requiring Joseph to lead simultaneously across major project finance, ECA structuring, and complex construction contracting — a combination rarely managed by a single adviser on a transaction of this scale.
Arbitrations. Mr. Huse has acted in numerous ICC, UNCITRAL, and LCIA arbitrations, both as advocate and as arbitrator. He served as the first Registrar of the DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Centre.
Eurotunnel. Mr. Huse acted on behalf of Eurotunnel in connection with the Channel Tunnel fixed link crossing.
Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO). Mr. Huse acted on behalf of KEDO — established by the Governments of the United States, Japan, and South Korea — for the design and construction of two 1,000 MW nuclear reactors in North Korea in exchange for the freezing of North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme.
Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Mr. Huse acted on behalf of the OPCW in connection with the removal and destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile. The OPCW was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its work in this area.
